An App for Children of all Ages
Joe Zeff Design is excited to announce that its most ambitious iPad app yet, Kids Discover, is available today in the iTunes App Store.
We've developed an interactive magazine for children that blows the doors off the competition. Kids Discover is a monthly iPad app bursting at the seams with original content — text, animation, pictures and activities. The app teaches kids about a different subject every month, with new installments sold individually or by subscription. Like the print magazine on which it is based, Kids Discover for iPad contains no advertising, ensuring that parents, teachers and children can experience its content without distractions.
Kids Discover demonstrates how the iPad can transform education. The app was developed using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, and pushes the platform beyond what other magazines and publishers have done in terms of interactivity. There's too much interactive content in each issue to list here; the best way to experience it is to download the free sample issue about Galaxies and see for yourself!
Christopher Holewski was the project lead at Joe Zeff Design, collaborating with Ed Gabel, who created many of the computer-generated animations. Kids Discover involved its top people: Publisher Judith Princz, Director of Digital Development Ted Levine and Editor Jennifer Dixon.
Some screen grabs from Volumes 1 and 2:
Founded in 1991, Kids Discover is a leader in educational publishing and a past finalist for two National Magazine Awards. The publisher offers an award-winning library of nonfiction titles and teacher's guides through its online store. Every issue is vetted by an expert in that subject area, recruited from top-rated universities and museums.
Antarctica, Washington, D.C. and Galaxies are now available. Upcoming volumes include Ancient China, Simple Machines, Extreme Weather, Lewis & Clark and Cells. The publisher's first app, Kids Discover Space, launched earlier this fall as a "New and Noteworthy" selection on the iTunes App Store home page.
