Gideon's Army Seizes Sundance
Congratulations to filmmaker Dawn Porter and her team at Trilogy Films for their world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this week, where Gideon's Army has opened to standing ovations and critical acclaim.
Gideon's Army is a documentary about the challenges facing public defenders 50 years after the landmark Supreme Court decision Gideon v. Wainwright, which requires courts to provide counsel for defendants unable to pay for their own attorneys. Porter sheds light on an overburdened system, with 15,000 public defenders handling a million cases a year.
We are excited to be associated with the film, having designed its logotype and website — and, who knows, maybe someday an iPad app that draws further attention to the challenges facing public defenders. Credit goes to Emily Ragle for overseeing the website design and Michael Smyjewski for creating a terrific logotype. Trinity Films is located in our Hillside Square church-turned-offices in Montclair, NJ.
Gideon's Army will appear on HBO later this year, as well as other festivals. Learn more through its website, Facebook and Twitter.
